I had the chicken Kung Pao. it was delicious. the problem was that they chopped up the red peppers into medium-sized bits which makes them difficult to remove from the dish. Unless you have a cast iron stomach, you certainly wouldn't want to eat them. The service was fine, and the pricing was good. I recommend the place.
Wouldn't give me a refund and food was nasty
After I placed an order for delivery on DoorDash and receiving a delivery confirmation, I waited for 15 minutes before I got a notification that I my order was canceled for no reason. Awful way to treat a customer.
One of few polite authentic Chinese restaurants. I had pork belly with pickled vegetables which high on salt but nothing like what I had before.
Not only was the food mediocre, but the service was horrible. The waitress was rude, got my order wrong, twice and would shake her head everytime walking past our table.
Love this place, one of the best chinese restaurants in Pittsburgh.
Good food and nice wait staff!
The best tasting chinese food in all of Pittsburgh. Staff is friendly and helpful. Just an all around great choice for moderately priced Chinese cuisine.
Well cooked food every time. Their beef hot pot, and water spinach dish are superb!
The authentic szechuan menu here is wonderful. The Chongqing dry hot chicken is delicious and crispy as well as very hot. The chongqing dumplings are my favorite. They also have thai tea and bubble tea drinks. The decor is pretty simple and doesn't offer much, but the staff are quick and attentive.
As a Chinese, I learnt one important thing about Sichuan gourmet for the first time from How Lee, and that is Chengdu dry fried hot chicken is very different from Chongqing dry fried hot chicken. The former is a lot spicier and less fried, while the latter is deeply fried and has a little sweet taste, which balances the spicy flavor very well. Recommend the Chongqing one.
Love this place very good food made quick and delicious
Best Chinese food in Pittsburgh! Try the orange chicken. You're not going regret
Food good but not very good people who run the business! I ordered food paid 25 dollars for my order guy who delivered my food asked for tip and i told him i didnt have cash he told me dont call back.... Then i called restaurant to report him and they laughed ate
Good, authentic Chinese food (make sure you choose from the authentic menu that includes Chinese characters and not the Americanized one) for a reasonable price. Casual atmosphere overall, good place to just hang out with friends or family for lunch or dinner. Customer service could have been a little more friendly, but that’s attributable to the culture and language barriers (the entire waiting staff is Chinese). The cutlery isn’t perfectly clean-there are a few water stains, and the kitchen can be quite noisy when the place is busy.tl;dr: Nothing very fancy, just good food.
The pea plant was fresh and delicious. The servers are excellent, friendly and attentive.
Order from them awhile back 2 years ago found roach in food . Took it back to show them and they said they would make it again . Why would I want food again when the roach was in it in the first place. Asked for a refund they denied . Come back 2 years later ordered shrimp with garlic sauce only to receive the tiniest shrimp ever . No literally baby shrimp the kind that you find in scampi .. Even the worst of the worst Chinese restaurants I've been too serve their shrimp w/ garlic sauce with medium to jumbo shrimp . That's how you get the most out of the sauce . I will continue paying the extra couple bucks and go to Mandarin Gourmet . Theeee absolute best Chinese Restaurant in town ! Can't say I didn't try .
Our favorite Chinese restaurant! Beyond delicious food for the whole family!
This place is GOOD, and I regret not coming sooner. Very flavorful, inexpensive large portions, friendly staff. Choose from the authentic Szechuan menu on the back and you will not be disappointed!
I visited based on the Yelp reviews. I was not very impressed. Parking is a feat especially around the 6:00 hour. I parked a few streets down in a residential area which was a short walk and not too bad. How Lee is small and located in a downtown “main” street area. The place has a few tables and some booths. My waitress was attentive and she promptly waited on me which was very nice. The food was plated beautifully but lacking in taste and seasoning. The portion was indeed generous and the dishes are family style. Overall not very impressed with the taste of the food despite the fact that it looked delicious. I ordered the braised tofu and the beef large noodle.
The food seem pretty authentic. I’m not a big Sichuan person since I’m not a huge fan of chili peppers. The beef tendon was great.
The spicy beef noodle soup always has a special place in my heart. I love this dish and only How Lee makes the best.
Best Szechuan in the city bar non. Shredded beef with green chili’s is a must if you like spicy.
Hands down the worst Chinese food I have ever tasted! They couldn't even make edible wonton soup!
I’ve visited this restaurant several times. The Szechuan cuisine here is excellent! Love it so much!♥︎♥︎♥︎ very tasty! Especially the bean curd with pork, my every time must😆
Customer service sucks big time. Smell really bad inside. Deff not coming back here ever again
Consistently good food. When I get a hankering for Chinese American food this hits the spot.
Another gem in Squirrel Hill I frequented at least twice a month during my four years living in Pittsburgh. It's one of the gems I find myself returning to after so many years to enjoy traditional Sichuan cuisine. Try the pork intestine. It's otherworldly.
We love how lee. Have been fans for many years. The quality and consistency is great. The service is always friendly.
Haven't been here here yet but plan to visit soon. Will post review when I visit. Menu deserves four stars.
Really great traditional Chinese food in Squirrel Hill ..Fresh and flavorful cuisine. Moderately priced and decent portions. Nice Restaurant
The best eggrolls fast service
Descent Chinese food. Doesn't overly season their food. Prices aren't too bad unless you're on a budget. Delivery is pretty fast and efficient.
Great service, and quick food.
Great and clean food, and it's served in large portions! Its a great place for ordering takeout because the food is made quickly and fresh. I really like how they have the option for ordering white meat ($1 upcharge). their generals tso's shrimp is soo good! However, it's really expensive, so make use of their lunch menu or split a dish with a friend. Also, the staff can be sometimes mean on the phone.
The best Sichuan restaurant I've ever been to! Get the chongquing chicken and dry fried green beans!
This place is entirely too expensive for the food to be as bad as it was. I thought because i paid all that money to pick up the food- it would be good. BUT my friends and I were so disgusted. I do not recommend this place if you want good chinese food. The bubble tea was pretty good though. BUT THE FOOD- eh, try a different place.
Restaurant is a little dirty inside and run down. Food was just ok, nothing to write home about. The staff was polite and customer focused but I can't say I would go back out and re-order.
The Garlic Chicken was so good! Will be back for more.
Good food! Seems to be quite busy a lot of the time though, so its a bit hectic.
Family made a 50.00 order. The food was mediocre. Wings were over fried. Not taste to egg roll, lo mein, dumplings. Teriyaki chicken looked and tasted like it was from yesterday. Lo mein very dry. Will not return.
I honestly would give it less than one star if I could. I ordered pad thai w/shrimp and crab ragoon and it was HORRIBLE!!!! Crab Ragoon had NO crab just fried cream cheese... Pad Thai was just eggs and noodles with shrimp. No seasoning no moisture no vegetables NOTHING. Orange chicken was overly breaded. Last time ill waste my money!!!
For a dozen years or so, we've frequently driven from Beaver Valley to a "Sichuan Restaurant" on Murray Ave. Thursday was our Anniversary and that's the restaurant my wife chose. When we arrived we saw the menu had changed. And from what we could understand, we believe also the ownership. We asked if our favorite dishes could be made and were simply told, NO! Try something else.WE DID TRY SOMETHING ELSE. BUT IT WASN'T THERE. We chose instead, How Lee's Restaurant. And we both were very satisfied. The waitress was pleasant. Walnut Shrimp was on the menu. When I asked her if they would make Walnut Chicken instead. She said, I don't see why not! AND THEY DID! My wife had Chicken with mixed veggies. And was very pleased. A gentleman came and spoke with us (Who we believe was the owner). He was very nice also. We definitely have a new FAVORITE Chinese restaurant. We definitely would suggest HOW LEE CHINESE RESTAURANT, in Squirrel Hill🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Great place for Authentic Chinese food. Very good staff. They kept door open for us and prepared excellent food for us even if we were late. They served us well.
Went here for the lunch on Friday and the line was out the door, which is always a good sign the food must be good. I ordered the sesame chicken with white meat and was so IMPRESSED with the flavor, how much you get for the price and the value altogether. I’m so glad I went out of my lunch norm and tried this place. I will be back again and again and again. DONT PASS UP THIS HIDDEN GEM! You won’t regret it!
Good food but the service was a little slow
My Chinese girlfriend and I were pleasantly surprised to find authentic food, hot tea, hot pot, and great service. We'll be back for sure!
Ordered the veg ho fun. Good portions but really lacking in taste. My friend ordered the tri-pepper chicken, but it turned out to be really oily, especially when he had asked for a dish that was not fried. Average experience, will not return.
Excellent and authentic. You know you're getting good szechuan food when your face goes numb. It's their special peppercorn spices.
We were told this restaurant has some of the best Sichuan cuisine in the area. Most of the Sichuan dishes are spicy, be warned! The food was quite good and the staff was very friendly. Loved the scallion pancakes. Large portions too.
